20 Years of Expertise // Transformative, Evidence-Based Ideas

For two decades, CRPE has offered a different lens through which to view education. We’ve been focused on evidence, and on progress toward better outcomes for students.

To help us celebrate our 20th anniversary and reflect on our achievements, we asked leading researchers and reformers to share their views on how CRPE has impacted education reform—and their own work—over the past 20 years.

We wanted honest assessments of the organization’s influence: What concepts and approaches has CRPE brought to the field? How has the organization moved thinking in unexpected directions? Are there concrete ways CRPE has changed the field—for leaders, educators, students? Where have our ideas failed to take root, and why?

This compilation brings together several nationally influential contributors:
Jay Mathews, reporter and columnist, Washington Post
Marguerite Roza, Director, Edunomics Lab at Georgetown
Michael Kirst, Professor, Stanford University
Jane Hannaway, Director, CALDER at AIR
Bruno Manno, Senior Advisor, Walton Family Foundation
Russlynn Ali, Managing Director, Education Fund at the Emerson Collective
John White, Louisiana State Superintendent of Education, and Adam Hawf, Assistant Superintendent, Portfolio

Together, their essays highlight CRPE’s leadership, influence, and impact on the national dialogue on education policy, from school choice and charter schools, to finance and human capital, to governance and portfolio strategies.

We hope you enjoy this look back at the successes and lessons learned over the past 20 years, knowing that our best work is yet to come.
