As part of CRPE’s research on how U.S. states are approaching AI integration and adoption in schools, our research team created a database of 20 early adopter states. It includes information on how these states are approaching AI in K–12 education through policy, governance, partnerships, and implementation. These states were selected because they’ve taken some form of action to address and/or integrate AI into state educational priorities and were recommended by state and national leaders on AI in education. See our analysis brief for a deeper dive into the information presented in the database.

By compiling publicly available information into a single, structured database, our goal is to support sensemaking in a rapidly evolving policy landscape and make it easier to see emerging patterns, points of divergence, and areas where states are learning through experimentation. The database is meant to surface how states are navigating AI amid uncertainty, capacity constraints, and differing political and educational contexts. It is not intended to evaluate or rank states or determine a single “right” approach, nor is it meant to be an exhaustive account of all state AI adoption efforts. CRPE may continue to add to the database if it proves valuable to the field.

The database includes two tabs:

  1. Database
  2. Categories & Content: Explains the data included in the database and where the data comes from.

If you’d like to filter the data to view specific states or categories, you have two options:

Filter the data in your web browser.

  1. Click on the button above to open the database.
  2. In cell A2, click on the second button, “Views.” Select “+ Create filter view” from the dropdown menu.
  3. To exit the view you created or change to a different view, go back to “Views” in cell A2.

Copy or download the data:

We recommend making a copy of the data under “File” → “Make a copy” to properly retain all links and formatting. Alternatively, you can download the file under “File” → “Download” and select your desired file type. However, please note that downloading to other file types may corrupt links and formatting.
